new car

Since the BMW fiasco, we had mostly put getting a new car on the back-burner.  It seemed each week that Ryan had a new plan obsession and I quickly learned not to hold my breath.  A few months ago, Papa Jim called and mentioned that good family friends, the Nemes' were selling their Honda Accord.  We really were focused on something all wheel drive until we found out their 2007 big-engine, "all the bells and whistles," Accord had just over 30k miles.  It's basically identical to Ryan's old car but 6 years newer and truly a "only to church on Sundays," kind of car.  We jumped at the chance but let Al and Marilyn keep it while they waited on their new car.  Marilyn wanted a car that would hold all her grandkids and needed something with a 3rd row.  We hope to someday be the purchasers of their new MDX but are thrilled at this deal falling into our laps.

A couple weeks after getting the new car, we made haste in getting the old silver steed ready to sell.  Unfortunately we had to replace the alternator just a couple days before getting the new car but hoped that would be a great selling point in addition to the new transmission.  The neighbors caught us outside cleaning it up and Ryan mentioned that he was selling it and what he hoped to get for it.  The next morning he took it to the car wash and could no sooner get in the door before the neighbor handed him a check and exclaimed. "we'll take it."  I had expected Ryan to get home and head to the computer to list it and was shocked when he said it was already sold.  The neighbors old Toyota Corolla had logged more than 400K miles so it was certainly an improvement. He frequently drives to Wyoming for work and logs lots of highway miles.

It's been a little confusing for Ben to see "daddy's old car," on the street but I think he's settling in to the fact that it's now Greg's.  It's comforting to have two reliable cars and know we will have to only handle one payment in a couple years when my car bites the dust.  The new car is sporty and comfy and has all we could ask for but also comes with the peace of mind that a fancy car never would.....for now at least.;)
