return to the pool

On Monday of this week we jumped back in the pool for another round of swimming lessons.  I had to stand in line for a lottery spot before Christmas and was lucky enough to get in. They are at the rec center in the middle of Washington Park that has very little space and high demand, (sound familiar?) so lotteries are the fair solution.  We go twice a week for 30 mins and already Ben is back to himself in the pool and loving it.  It was amazing the difference between the first and second sessions and scary that my little baby can pull himself out of the pool and jump back in, all on his own :(.

There was a short breakdown Monday before we left.  Ben regularly finds his swim trunks in his drawer and lets me know he'd like to swim.  Over the last week I've been able to tell him, "just a couple more days buddy."  On Monday when I told him the day was finally here, he was totally sure this meant swimming in his (snow-covered) backyard pool.  I nearly had to drag him from the backdoor and finally he relaxed enough to start our journey.  I don't think he really believed me though until he saw the aqua pool water through the window.  Having not been there before I allowed extra time and that was also a mistake as waiting our turn was also a struggle.  I look forward to the days when I look back on two-year-old struggles with fondness and nostalgia.  Thankfully these two were quite bearable and mostly had me giggling.
