Saturday was our 2nd annual Heimer Holiday Hayride. We once again took part in the Gaylord St. Holiday hayride benefiting the Denver post's Season to Share campaign. The weather cooperated this year holding out in the mid-forties. I felt like maybe there were fewer houses with lights this year despite my hope that many houses might join in after last year's inaugural event. There weren't the volunteer carol leaders this year but we were allowed to bring our drinks on which helped in our own carol singing. Just like last year, we headed back home for hors devours and apple cheddar butternut squash soup. After dinner the kiddos retired to the basement to watch A Curious George Christmas and the adults enjoyed more drinks and conversation. Tante finally joined the kiddos downstairs for Elf and everyone had departed just before 10.
We missed Ryan's holiday party this year because of this event which had already been scheduled and heard from several party-goers that we didn't miss much and that it was far from the 50 th anniversary fun of last year.
Just like last year, the kiddos might have had the most fun talking to Father Christmas at the Gnome's Nook after the ride. Local businesses got a little more involved this year with different offerings of food or discounts at many of them. I had a blast and can't imagine missing it, but I also imagine a limo or party bus taking us to see LOTS more lights. Thankfully I have a whole year to think about it!
