So I'm thinking this post could have been several and instead it will be a jumbled mess-a journal entry of sorts about our weekend.
The Kindness of Strangers
Ok, so they're not strangers at all. Perhaps I should say unexpected kindness but that might imply they are not normally kind people! I must admit my instinct upon finding out Ryan was to be gone for two weeks was to high-tail it home to D-town. With Riley, and swim lessons, that was not to be this time and Ben and I were so pleasantly surprised by the kindness of friends to adopt us for the weekend. We had dinner with the Halls (Jay, Onie and Peter) Friday night and watched the Final Four with the TS's (Caleb, Tisha, and Cadyn) on Saturday night. It was great to get out of the house and enjoy time with friends. When Ryan is around I never experience the common longing for adult conversation you hear about SAHM's wanting, but boy was it welcome by our Friday walk with the girls and right on into late Saturday night.
Real Deal Belly Sleep
Monday morning I found Ben on his tummy in his crib for the first time. As Tisha warned, it was terrifying and exciting all at once. He had been rolling a bit when he woke during the night (see Glue Factory) and I'd put him back on his back a couple times before we both got back to sleep. I think this may be the beginning of bedtime being a whole new ball game and if it were more than three sleeps before Ryan got back, I'd be dropping that mattress myself.
Glue Factory
I posted a warning to the pups on Facebook last week about the glue factory being short on horses and now accepting pups!! They have by far been more difficult with Ryan gone than Ben. Anna is up at all hours wanting in our room, then out, and going into Ben's room (which is cute) and snoring and huffing and puffing him awake. Luke, who I normally struggle to draw from his bed when Ryan is home, is awake and jingling his collar at 5AM!!! every day. He yines (yawn/whine combo) and circles the bed until I yell at him. This yelling on more than one occasion has woken the baby b/c the door has been opened for Anna!! Sheesh!! I even caught Luke going into Ben's room and trying to lick him through the crib one day we didn't have Riley and were sleeping in. I am confident they are both aware that if the baby is up-they will be too! This keen awareness might just land them with Elmer-and we're not talking about elephants here people!!
Lunch Date
Ben had a couple seriously cranky days Saturday evening and Sunday. Soon a pattern emerged and he was continually hungry about an hour before his normal bottles. The bottle was the last thing I would try b/c it was so early, but sure enough....food was the answer. Until now, Ben has been eating cereal in the morning and food for dinner with four bottles throughout the day. Although the Dr. told us at 6 months that he could be eating a 2-3 oz. solid food lunch, I hadn't started it b/c he seemed satisfied with his current regimen. Lately he has thrown absolute fits if he sees me eating ANYTHING and will stand from afar and open his mouth beckoning for a taste. Well, Monday morning Ben and I set out to Target to stock up on anything whole grain we could find along with some squash and other veggies to stock the freezer. It made me look forward to having a lunch date each day although I've already learned that some days will still be all about the Benjamin.
As far as new foods, Ben is now eating bananas, puffs of all sorts, cauliflower, and today will try spaghetti squash. I had to remind myself to slow down and remember to only introduce one new food at a time as I got so excited about his eating progressing.
I do apologize for the jumbled mess and will try going forward to
A) remember the camera!
B) post more frequently and in a more organized manner.
'All about the Benjamin' - LOVE it! Hooray for belly sleep. And good job to you Mama for figuring out sweet Ben wanted to eat lunch with the big people :)
ReplyDeleteJust like his mama at that age - he wants "people food" not "baby food". Ben, tell your mom you want "POTAATOES"!
